Umarnani.
Dharmendra Umarnani is the Global Ports Segment Leader
at Schneider Electric, driving the company's strategy for
electrification, decarbonisation, automation, and digitalisation
across the ports and maritime sector. With over 21 years of
experience in energy, electrical engineering, and industrial
decarbonisation, he works with port authorities, terminal
operators, EPCs, and shipping lines to develop practical,
investment-grade pathways to a low-carbon port ecosystem.
Dharmendra combines deep electrical engineering expertise
— spanning MV/LV infrastructure, onshore power supply (OPS/
shore power), smart grids, and energy management — with a
strong commercial and regulatory understanding of the sector.
He is well versed in the evolving international frameworks
shaping port decarbonisation, including AFIR, FuelEU Maritime,
IMO GHG Strategy, EU ETS, and TEN-T, and translates these into
actionable technology roadmaps for his clients.
Prior to his current role, Dharmendra led Schneider Electric's
European Electrification Consulting practice and held senior
positions at Shell, Foster Wheeler, Fluor, and BP, delivering major
electrification, energy storage, and decarbonisation projects across
the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond. He is a Chartered
Engineer (IET), a Certified Energy Manager (CEM®), and holds an
MBA in Operations and a BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering.
OPS Under Load: Proactive Failure Identification and Downtime Reduction Strategies
As OPS systems scale, failure risks shift from isolated faults to system-wide vulnerabilities. This session examines how ports and operators can detect early warning signals, prioritise critical components, and implement redundancy strategies. Focus is placed on minimising downtime through predictive maintenance, system monitoring, and coordinated operational response.
