Towards a Caribbean Model for Onshore Power. Can OPS Become a Catalyst for Resilient Island Energy Systems?
OPS and shore power are a key pathway towards decarbonising the maritime sector, and interest in developing OPS is growing across the Caribbean. Yet national energy systems, port readiness and technical capabilities are not yet aligned, and OPS investments are capital intensive, so demand, regulation and bankability must be analysed carefully and early. This session frames Caribbean OPS as a port energy transition project, not simply shore connection equipment, with a focus on coordinated planning, financing, capacity building and regional enabling approaches rather than isolated technology projects.
