The Vessel as an Energy System: What Ports Must Prepare For

As vessels move towards hybrid propulsion, full electrification and alternative fuels, their relationship with ports is changing. Ships are becoming complex energy systems that require reliable power, intelligent energy management and greater coordination with shoreside infrastructure. Drawing on SEAM’s experience across more than 135 maritime projects, John Roger Nesje will examine how vessel electrification is developing, what shipowners require from ports, and why onboard power management, charging capacity, automation and operational planning must be considered together. The keynote will provide a vessel-side perspective on the transition from shore-power connections towards integrated port and maritime energy systems.
