Dufour.
Damien Dufour is Lead Engineer of Maritime Robotics & AI Developments at AutoMooring Solutions and an Engineering Doctorate candidate in Autonomous Systems, specialising in the development of advanced technologies for the next generation of maritime operations.
His work spans autonomous navigation, artificial intelligence, computer vision, intelligent perception, automated mooring and vessel–shore integration, with a particular focus on translating cutting-edge research into robust systems that can operate in complex, safety-critical marine environments.
At AutoMooring Solutions, Damien contributes to the development of intelligent infrastructure designed to increase the automation, efficiency and reliability of vessel-port interaction. His work explores how autonomous systems, precision vessel positioning, automated mooring and AI-enabled control can be combined to support a more integrated and scalable maritime ecosystem.
His Engineering Doctorate research focuses on novel computer-vision and localisation methods for maritime applications, addressing some of the key technical challenges associated with reliable autonomy in dynamic real-world environments.
Damien has a particular interest in the convergence of autonomy, electrification and smart port infrastructure. His work examines how these technologies can enable more seamless vessel turnaround, automated shore-side operations and the wider adoption of scalable shore power and vessel charging solutions, helping accelerate the transition towards cleaner, smarter and increasingly autonomous maritime transport.
The Complete Port Call: Integrating Technologies for Maritime Decarbonisation
Decarbonising maritime operations requires more than focusing on the vessel alone. Every port call represents an interconnected ecosystem involving the ship, port infrastructure, terminal operations, mooring, energy supply and the efficient movement of vessels into and out of the port. Moderated by Laurent Dupuis, VP Product Management, Cavotec, this discussion will explore how the different stakeholders involved in a port call can work together to reduce emissions, improve operational efficiency and support the maritime industry's transition towards decarbonisation. Bringing together perspectives from port planning, harbour operations, technology providers and vessel operators, the panel will consider the complete journey of a vessel through a port – from its approach and arrival through berthing and cargo or passenger operations to departure.
