Senior Executive (Internationalisation)Xjenza Malta
Biography

I am a Senior Executive at Xjenza Malta, where I lead Malta’s engagement in a broad portfolio of European research and innovation co-funded partnerships and initiatives under Horizon Europe. My work spans strategic programme coordination, research funding, stakeholder engagement and R&I policy, with particular involvement in initiatives including the Clean Energy Transition Partnership, Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership and JPI Oceans. I oversee Malta’s participation in international collaborative funding programmes and work closely with researchers, public authorities and European partners to translate research priorities into effective national participation and investment.

I hold a Master’s degree in Evidence-Based Management and Effective Decision Making from the University of Malta, where my research focused on optimising Malta’s research funding systems, and I am currently pursuing an MA in International Relations at Queen Mary University of London.

OCEANH2 Panel | From Research to Reality: Accelerating Innovation in Shore Power, Hydrogen and Port Electrification

This panel will examine how promising research, pilot projects and emerging technologies can progress into commercially viable, full-scale port energy systems. Centred on the question, “How do we move from research and innovation to real-world integrated port energy systems?”, the discussion will address the gap between technical development and practical deployment. Panellists will consider technology readiness, grid capacity, infrastructure planning, standards, regulation, investment and the commercial conditions required to scale shore power, hydrogen and port electrification. The session will also explore how ports, universities, technology companies, energy providers and public authorities can work together to convert research outcomes into bankable projects that deliver measurable operational and environmental results.
