Biography

Maria Bos has 20 years of experience in innovation, digitalization, and strategy across the financial and renewable energy sectors. After leading the group strategy and sustainability division at Eviny, a prominent Norwegian renewable and technology company, she became the CEO of Plug, an Eviny-owned shore power company, in 2020.

Under her leadership, Plug has accelerated the development and deployment of shore power infrastructure, not only in Norway but also in other countries, helping to reduce emissions from the maritime industry.

Plug's role spans the entire value chain, from designing and building to operating and investing in shore power projects. The first port Plug collaborated with was the Port of Bergen, where they have had responsibility for the daily operations of the OPS systems since 2018.

Maria holds a degree in strategic management and finance from the Norwegian School of Economics.

When Ships Plug In: How National Grids Carry 24/7 Port Electrification?

The rapid expansion of shore power introduces a new and continuous layer of demand on national electricity grids, particularly in ports handling large cruise and container vessels. This session explores how grid operators are preparing to accommodate sustained, high-load demand while maintaining stability, reliability, and compliance with national energy strategies. Through real-world examples and technical insights, the discussion will address grid congestion, infrastructure upgrades, and the coordination required between ports and utilities to ensure uninterrupted power supply in an increasingly electrified maritime environment.
