HAROPA's Seine Corridor Funding Shows Shore Power Moving Inland
By Staff Report

HAROPA PORT has secured EUR 6.1 million in European funding for terminal electrification along the Seine corridor, linking seaport OPS with river cruise, freight and winter mooring infrastructure.
HAROPA PORT's latest EU funding award is a reminder that port electrification is not confined to ocean terminals. The Seine corridor project connects Le Havre, Rouen and Paris through a shared shore power and terminal electrification agenda.
The funding comes through the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility, part of the Connecting Europe Facility. HAROPA PORT will receive EUR 6.1 million against a projected budget of EUR 21.4 million.
The project covers four linked electrification efforts. At Le Havre, it supports phase one of the electrification of Port 2000. In Paris, it funds electricity supply terminals for passenger transport and river cruise. In Rouen, it supports five new freight electricity supply terminals as well as electricity supply terminals for river cruise.
This matters because maritime decarbonisation increasingly depends on corridors, not isolated assets. Vessels do not only call at one terminal. Freight and passenger flows move between maritime gateways, inland ports, river terminals and logistics hubs. Electrification becomes more valuable when it is available across the route.
HAROPA frames the work as part of its green corridor strategy, with the objective of enabling more freight and cruise vessels to connect to onshore power and reduce emissions during port calls.
The Seine corridor is therefore a useful European case study. It combines maritime terminals, inland waterway operations, cruise activity and freight facilities into one funding story. That makes the project relevant for ports trying to link shore power, multimodality and regional air-quality goals.
For DTF Conference readers, HAROPA's award broadens the OPS discussion. The next phase of port decarbonisation will not only be about the largest seagoing vessels at the largest
HAROPA PORT's EUR 6.1 million EU award links maritime and river terminal electrification along the Seine corridor.
The project shows how shore power can become a corridor strategy, connecting seaports, inland ports, river cruise and freight operations.
