Carnival's New Emissions Target Raises the Bar for Cruise Port Readiness

Carnival Corporation says it achieved its original 2030 greenhouse-gas intensity goal in 2025 and has set a new 25% reduction target for 2029.
Carnival's latest sustainability announcement gives ports a fleet-side reason to keep accelerating shore-power infrastructure. The company says it achieved a 20% greenhouse-gas emissions-intensity reduction in 2025 against a 2019 baseline, meeting its original 2030 goal five years ahead of schedule, and has now set a 25% reduction target by 2029.
The company points to a combination of fuel-efficiency measures, LNG, biofuels, battery energy storage and shore power. Public reporting also states that shore-power capability covers 74% of fleet capacity, with an 80% target by 2030.
Fleet ambition only turns into local air-quality gains when ports can supply the electricity. Cruise companies with shore-power-capable vessels will increasingly favour destinations that can make cleaner calls routine.
