5MW Without the Grid: Elire Maritime to Unveil Results of Hydrogen Power Hub Trials

Traditional port electrification often stalls at the substation. To address this, Elire Maritime is presenting a live deep-dive into its Hydrogen Power Hub, a grid-independent solution developed under the Innovate UK Clean Maritime Demonstrator Competition (CMDC). The system offers a 5MW clean energy-to-power capacity, providing a functional alternative for ports facing immediate electrical capacity constraints.

The maritime industry is increasingly looking for "plug-and-play" infrastructure that can be deployed without the years of planning required for land-based grid expansion. Elire Maritime has led a consortium including technical partners like Ricardo, Schneider Electric, and the University of Strathclyde to validate a mobile, floating energy solution designed specifically for high-demand vessel segments.

The Solution: 5MW Hydrogen Power Hub This infrastructure is designed to bridge the gap between policy requirements and physical grid reality. The upcoming live session will provide technical and commercial transparency on:

  • System Architecture: How 5MW of clean power is managed and delivered from a floating platform.
  • Commercial Viability: Analysis of scalable business models that allow ports to adopt Onshore Power Supply (OPS) through an "Infrastructure-as-a-Service" framework.
  • Environmental Impact: Initial data suggests that a single deployment in London could mitigate over 17,000 tonnes of CO₂ per cruise season.

About the Organizers: Elire Group is an infrastructure specialist focused on delivering modular, standardized systems for the maritime sector. Through Elire Maritime, they are shifting the focus from static quayside installations to agile, water-based assets that can be deployed where demand is highest. Their work within the CMDC framework serves as a template for how collaborative engineering can deliver deployable technology today.
